Hi! My name is Timothy Joseph. Welcome to: “Yusif’s to You! Podcast: The music of New Mexican songwriters”! I’ll be your host... Here in Albuquerque we live at 5,000 ft. above sea level, we have a pre-history that spans 25,000 into our past, we have a written history that goes back to the mid 1500’s and a culture that has developed from the interaction between the Native American, Hispanic and Anglo cultures. Our vast skies, high plains desert, intense clear sunlight, colorful rocks, towering mountains and fresh clean air has been attracting artists and explorers for hundreds of years. Our history infuses us and this land inspires us. Our music comes from as many different backgrounds as people who have settled here. We find ourselves here because we get our inspiration from the land that surrounds us, the sun that bathes us and the collective voices of all who have come this way. We listen to the wisdom of the past and experiment with the styles of the future. We are a truly unique multicultural place that balances between the old and the new. Though we’ve been here for a long time, our music is mostly unknown to the world outside of our borders. That’s where this podcast comes into place. We think we’ve got some pretty great music here and would like for you to hear it. Every week we will be bringing you 2 New Mexican songwriters that will be singing their original music for you in a songwriter-in-the-round type of format. If you happen to live in N.M. or are just passing through, come out and join us in one of our live recording sessions.
